Hot blue starIts story
In Vela, the sails of the ancient ship Argo, blazes a blue B-type star 480 light-years away. Its white-blue light, thousands of times more powerful than the Sun's, set out as Philip II ordered the Spanish Armada to sail toward England. It now reaches us as a cold, intense gleam among the celestial winds that eternally swell the sails drawn into the southern sky.
