What is HIP 31072
Another yellow star shines in Columba, this time about six hundred and fifteen light years away. Its light set out when Portuguese navigators were still trying out routes into the South Atlantic, long before any modern optical instrument existed. HIP 31072 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
