What is HIP 27737
In the Painter of the southern sky shines a yellow-white F-class star, slightly hotter than the Sun. Its light set out some 432 years ago, when the Gregorian calendar replaced the Julian one across much of Europe, cutting ten days at a single stroke. F stars are balanced, long-lived bodies, discreet candidates to host stable planetary systems.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 27737 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
