Pi6 Orionis belongs to the ancient arc of Orion's shield, the line of stars that traces the hunter's outstretched arm facing Taurus. It is an exceptionally luminous orange K-type giant: it shines with such intensity that it remains visible to the naked eye despite lying roughly 945 light-years away.
