Pi-5
Variable starIts story
Pi-5 Orionis forms part of the curved shield Orion raises against the charging celestial bull. More than 1340 light-years away, it is a hot blue B-type giant, an ellipsoidal variable subtly deformed by a companion that orbits in a startlingly tight embrace. Together with its sisters Pi-1 through Pi-6, it traces one of the most recognisable arcs of the northern winter sky.
