What is HIP 15219

Within the hero Perseus, still brandishing Medusa's head, glows a yellow G-type giant nearly 790 light-years away. Its light set out when the Iberian Christian kingdoms were waging the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, in 1212. It shares its colour with the Sun but far exceeds it in size and luminosity, an elder sister swollen by the passage of stellar time.

Where it is and when to see it

HIP 15219 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
