Northern polar starIts story
In Cepheus, near the north celestial pole, this yellow G-type star burns 434 light years away at magnitude 5.8. Its light began its journey around 1592, the year Cervantes was imprisoned in Seville and Shakespeare was beginning to write for the London theatres. Its closeness to the north celestial pole turns it into a permanent companion of the northern sky: it never sets, always turning around the axis of the world in eternal vigil.
