Cool red starIts story
In Grus, the crane of the southern sky, an M-type red giant pulses at about 589 light-years. Its light set out around 1437, when illuminated manuscripts still dominated Europe and only a few decades remained before Gutenberg s press. Far cooler than the Sun, its surface barely reaches 3500 degrees, yet its size is enormous: an aged star that unfolds a reddish, almost ember-like glow.
