Variable starIts story
It shines in Piscis Austrinus, the southern fish that in ancient tales drank the waters poured by Aquarius. Its yellow-white tone places it among the F-class stars, hotter than the Sun and crisper in light. What we see today is a glow that left around 312 years ago, when Enlightenment Europe was opening up to the encyclopedia and to the first modern scientific academies. It is a variable with a discreet pulse, enough to register small atmospheric oscillations as it orbits silently in the southern sky.
