Variable starIts story
14 Lacertae is a massive blue B-type variable in a modern constellation, Lacerta, drawn by Hevelius in the 17th century to fill a gap between Cygnus and Andromeda. Its light crosses 1,137 years before reaching the eye: when it set out, the Christian kingdoms of the northern Iberian Peninsula were settling in after the first reconquest of the Duero valley. Its subtle variability earns it a place in the catalogues of blue pulsators, still being refined with each new photometric survey.
