Variable starIts story
9 Persei is a blue-white A2 Ia supergiant, one of the truly luminous stars in the Perseus sky. Its radius is more than eighty times the Sun's, and it belongs to the rare Alpha Cygni family of non-radial pulsators, designated V474 Persei: its surface quivers in oscillation modes no human eye will ever resolve. It has already exhausted core hydrogen and now forges heavier elements, counting down toward its end.
