Pi-2
Hot blue starIts story
Pi-2 Cygni is a B-type blue giant in the northern reaches of the Swan, a possibly triple system about 1100 light-years away. The primary component is a Beta Cephei variable: it pulses through internal waves of ionised iron in its atmosphere, an extreme mechanism reserved for massive, hot stars. It sits roughly 2.5 degrees east-northeast of the open cluster M39, the obvious signpost for tracking it down with binoculars on a clear northern summer night.
